Unlike FORWARD buying and selling of emission of greenhouse gases ( carbon or CO2 certificates) , FUTURES transactions are concluded through specialized carbon exchanges (The ICE – London, EEX – Leipzig , NASDAQ OMX etc).

In futures trades, like in forward trades, the price is set in the present, and EUAs, CERs , ERUs delivery and payment will be made at a later date, also set in the present.
