What is EU ETS 2?

ETS 2 represents an extension of the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), aiming to include new sectors such as road transport and buildings and many more. These sectors will be required to comply with ETS, including monitoring, reporting, and verifying CO₂ emissions, as well as purchasing and surrendering emissions allowances.

The New sectors of EU ETS 2  must establish robust systems for accurate monitoring, reporting, and verification of emissions, starting from the baseline year 2024. By 2025, companies in the newly regulated sectors must begin purchasing allowances to cover their emissions, with the first compliance cycle closing in 2026.
